Initials and letters: printable worksheets

The initial of a first name is often the first letter a child recognizes and can name. These six generators start from that letter to work on graphic skills, visual discrimination and letter knowledge, with personalized worksheets for each student.

See, decorate, find, analyze

  • Initial in red: each student's name with its first letter highlighted in color.
  • Initial outline: the initial in very large format, as an outline to trace or decorate. A crossed J and keeping accents are available as options.
  • Graphic initial to color: the initial cut into irregular zones, to be colored in different colors.
  • Letter hunt: the initial in the center, surrounded by circles of letters. The student finds those containing the same one.
  • Picture hunt for the initial: the initial in the center, surrounded by pictures. The student circles those whose name starts with that letter.
  • Vowels and consonants in color: a text entered by the teacher (dictation, poem, instruction…), with vowels, consonants or both highlighted in color.

From the name to the letter

Most sheets carry the student's own initial: they are not working on a random letter, but on theirs. Instructions can be edited to fit your classroom vocabulary.
